J. Gow Rum — Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 23 October 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made through the J. Gow Rum online shop at jgowrum.com, operated by VS Distillers Ltd.

By placing an order through our website, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully before making a purchase.

1. Making a Purchase

Our online shop is intended for private individuals who are at least 18 years old and legally permitted to purchase alcoholic beverages in their country of residence and delivery destination.

By placing an order, you confirm that you meet these requirements. We reserve the right to request proof of age or cancel an order where age or legal eligibility cannot be satisfactorily established.

All products are subject to availability. We cannot guarantee that every product displayed on our website will remain available at all times.

When you place an order, you will receive an acknowledgement confirming that we have received it. This acknowledgement does not necessarily mean that we have accepted your order. We will notify you if we cannot fulfil an order. Your contract with us will be formed when we confirm acceptance of your order or dispatch the goods, as specified in our order confirmation process.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order where reasonably necessary, including where a product is unavailable, a payment cannot be authorised, a genuine pricing error has occurred, or we cannot legally fulfil the order. If payment has already been taken for an order we cannot fulfil, we will arrange an appropriate refund.

2. Prices and Payment

All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (£) unless otherwise stated.

The applicable product prices, delivery charges and other costs will be displayed before you complete your order. Prices will include VAT where applicable.

We reserve the right to change prices for future purchases. However, a price change will not automatically alter the agreed price of an order we have already accepted.

If a genuine pricing error affects an order, we will contact you to explain the situation and agree an appropriate resolution before proceeding.

Payments are processed securely through Stripe on behalf of VS Distillers Ltd, trading as J. Gow Rum. Payment methods available at checkout are subject to the options displayed when ordering.

Your payment details are processed in accordance with the relevant payment provider’s security and privacy arrangements. We do not intentionally store full payment card details on our website.

For further information about payment processing, please see Stripe’s privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy

3. Shipping and Handling

UK deliveries

Postage and packaging for UK deliveries is currently charged at £5.00 per order, unless another charge is displayed at checkout.

We reserve the right to revise delivery charges for future orders. The applicable delivery charge will be shown before you place your order.

International deliveries

International delivery may be available to selected destinations, subject to applicable laws, import regulations, courier restrictions and our ability to arrange delivery.

Please contact us at info@vsdistillersltd.com to enquire about international shipping costs and availability before placing an international order.

International shipping charges can be higher because of bottle weight, transport requirements and destination-specific costs. Any applicable delivery charges and known additional costs that we are responsible for disclosing will be communicated before you commit to the order.

We currently do not ship to the United States or Canada because of import and regulatory restrictions affecting our service.

Customers are responsible for any import duties, taxes or other charges that the law makes payable by the recipient, where these have been clearly disclosed before the order is placed. We cannot guarantee that international deliveries will be accepted by customs or that local import requirements will permit delivery.

4. Delivery Schedule

For UK orders, we generally use Royal Mail Tracked 24 for orders of one or two bottles and UPS or Parcelforce for larger orders, depending on the shipment.

Orders are usually dispatched within two working days of receipt, excluding weekends and public holidays. Due to our remote location in Orkney, please allow approximately 3–5 working days for UK delivery.

These are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates. Delays may occur because of weather, transport disruption, courier operations or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

For international orders, we will confirm the estimated delivery arrangements and applicable shipping costs before accepting the order.

If your order is delayed, lost or has not arrived within a reasonable period, please contact us so that we can investigate.

5. Tax Charges

Applicable taxes, including VAT where relevant, will be reflected in the prices or charges shown during checkout.

For international orders, import duties, local taxes and customs charges may apply depending on the destination and the delivery arrangements. We will explain any additional charges known to us before you commit to an order.

Customers are responsible for complying with applicable import requirements and paying charges legally payable by them, where these have been properly disclosed.

If you have a question about tax or delivery charges, please contact us before placing your order.

6. Product Quality and Guarantee

We take care to ensure that our products meet appropriate quality standards. Our products are tested and analysed by an independent specialist laboratory as part of our quality assurance processes.

Product descriptions, tasting notes, images and packaging are provided to help customers understand what they are purchasing. Minor differences in appearance, packaging or presentation may occur where appropriate and do not necessarily indicate a product fault.

Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights in relation to goods that are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet applicable legal requirements.

7. Returns, Cancellations and Refunds

We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. This section explains how to request a return or refund.

Your right to cancel an online order

If you are a consumer purchasing goods online, you will generally have a statutory right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, subject to applicable legal exceptions.

To exercise this right, you must notify us clearly within the applicable cancellation period. You will generally then have a further 14 days to return the goods.

To cancel an order or request return instructions, contact:

Email: info@vsdistillersltd.com
Telephone: 01856 781714

Please include your order number and details of the products you wish to return.

Condition of returned goods

Please take reasonable care of products while they are in your possession. Where you cancel an order, you may be responsible for any reduction in the value of the goods resulting from handling beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning, as permitted by law.

Certain statutory exceptions to cancellation rights may apply in specific circumstances. We will apply any relevant exception only where the legal requirements are met.

Return postage and refunds

Where you cancel an order under your statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights, you may be responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods if this has been explained to you before the purchase.

Where a refund is due following a valid cancellation, we will refund the relevant payment, including the cost of standard outbound delivery where required by law. We may be entitled to withhold the refund until we receive the returned goods or evidence that they have been sent, whichever occurs first, as permitted by law.

Refunds will normally be made using the original payment method unless another arrangement is agreed with you.

Damaged, faulty or incorrect goods

If your order arrives damaged, appears faulty or differs from what you ordered, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible at info@vsdistillersltd.com.

Where possible, please provide your order number and photographs of any damage or incorrect items to help us investigate.

We will assess the issue and arrange an appropriate remedy, which may include a replacement, repair where applicable, refund or other remedy required by law.

We ask customers to inspect deliveries promptly and report damage as soon as reasonably possible. However, this request does not remove or restrict your statutory rights if you cannot report an issue at the time of delivery.

Nothing in this Returns Policy excludes or limits any rights you have under applicable consumer protection law.

8. Delivery and Risk

We will take reasonable steps to ensure that your order is packaged appropriately and handed to the relevant delivery provider.

Responsibility for the goods will pass to you when you, or a person you have nominated other than the carrier, take physical possession of them, subject to applicable law.

If a parcel is missing, damaged or delivered incorrectly, please contact us so that we can investigate with the delivery provider.

We cannot guarantee that every delivery will arrive without delay, but we will take reasonable steps to assist in resolving delivery problems.

9. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer or our liability for matters that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.

We will take reasonable care in operating our website and fulfilling orders. However, we cannot guarantee that the website will always be available without interruption or that every technical issue can be prevented.

10. Privacy and Personal Information

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, the service providers we work with, and the rights available to you under applicable data protection law.

Please read our Privacy Policy at jgowrum.com — Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to our business, website, products or legal obligations.

The version applicable to your purchase will be the version incorporated into your contract at the relevant time. Changes will not retrospectively alter an existing contract unless agreed with you or otherwise permitted by law.

The latest version will be published on this page with its revision date.

13. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland, subject to any mandatory consumer protection provisions that apply to you.

Nothing in these terms prevents a consumer from relying on mandatory rights or protections available under the law applicable to their circumstances.
